Steelers have plenty of choices in draft

The Pittsburgh Steelers come into the 2009 NFL Draft with the most picks of any team in the league.

The Steelers will have nine selections to help them defend their Super Bowl title, although many around the league figure the Steelers will end up selecting less than nine.

Because Pittsburgh’s roster is already loaded, it is highly doubtful that the team would have nine open spots on their roster for rookies to come in and compete for.

Therefore, many believe the Steelers will look to use some of their extra picks to trade up in the draft and grab five or six stud players that they really love.

Look for Pittsburgh to do plenty of work on their offensive line, which is probably the most suspect part of their team. They may also look to wide receiver with Hines Ward entering the final years of his career.

Steelers in good shape to defend title

The Pittsburgh Steelers are set to defend their Super Bowl title, and you had better believe it won’t be easy. Just ask the New York Giants, who didn’t reach the conference championship game.

Like the Giants of last year, Pittsburgh didn’t lose much from their Super Bowl team and stands a decent shot at repeating as champions.

Their biggest offseason loss was probably wide receiver Nate Washington, who was their home run threat on long passes. Still, he often had trouble holding onto the ball and was only their third receiver.

The Steelers are confident that second-year wideout Limas Sweed will be ready and able to take Washington’s place without the team missing a beat.

It will also help that the Steelers will get running back Rashard Mendenhall back after a season-ending shoulder injury cut short his rookie year.
