Roethlisberger hurts achilles

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger injured his achilles tendon practice when his foot was stepped on by a teammate.

Roethlisberger was down for several minutes before limping slowly to the sideline and being attended to by the training staff.

The quarterback described the pain as feeling like a car ran over his foot, but the team did not send him to a local hospital for further evaluation.

The team is treating it as a sprained achilles and decided to hold him out of the preseason game against the Washington Redskins.

Steelers defense not pleased by rookie RB

The Pittsburgh Steelers had the top defense in the NFL last year, and they don’t take well to showboating from the other side.

In fact, the defensive unit doesn’t even like it if it is done by a teammate during practice, especially a rookie.

After scoring five out of seven times in a goaline drill, running back Isaac Redman spiked the ball.

The defense was not happy, especially a large group of the starters who were watching on the sidelines and not even a part of the drill.

The group said it was a bit premature to get so excited when he wasn’t even out there doing it against the varsity guys.

Steelers try to avoid complacency

One of the toughest things to do in sports is defend a championship, especially when it comes to the NFL.

The Pittsburgh Steelers will be trying to do what many other teams have failed to do in the past; win two consecutive Super Bowls.

The New England Patriots have done it, as have the Dallas Cowboys. Other than that, good luck finding a recent champion with any success the following year.

It’s so hard for teams to keep that edge, that hunger, that drive after reaching the pinnacle of the sport. It’s also hard for the ball to bounce the right way and the lucky breaks to come your way.

Steelers sign Miller to extension

The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed tight end Heath Miller to a six-year contract extension.

Miller had one year remaining on his contract but will now be with the team through the 2014 season.

The tight end is considered one of the best blockers in the league at his position, and he can also be a weapon catching passes as well.

In fact, there was some talk the Steelers may let Miller leave via free agency because they are disappointed he hasn’t realized more of his potential as a playmaker, especially in the red zone.
